Palm Coast 101

A quick explanation of the city layout; Parkways lead to Drives lead to Lanes lead to Places (cul-de-sacs).  Belle Terre Parkway runs north and south (perpendicular) to the east and west Palm Coast Parkways.  These are the main roads through the city.

You will usually find the same letter street within a subdivision.  The subdivisions and their corresponding street letters are...

Indian Trails            B                     Lehigh Woods             R
Cypress Knoll           E                     Pine Lakes                 W
                  Palm Harbor            C & F                Seminole Woods         S & U
Matanzas Woods      L                     Quail Hollow               K, LL, Z
Pine Grove              P                     Grand Haven              BL

Each of these subdivisions has something special; a lake, a golf course, salt water canals, fresh water canals, or a community within the subdivision.  For example, Arlington is a community within Pine Lakes that is all but 'gated' with sidewalks, street lights and underground wiring.  It has letter streets other than the usual 'W.'

The building of the Town Center has commenced.  It is proposed to have the narrow streets of an Old Florida theme and cover 1500 acres just north of 100 between Belle Terre Parkway and I-95.  For more details,

The first phase will be a 244 acre shopping center.  The plans include stores, offices, a 20-screen megaplex, an auditorium and a new City Hall.  The City Hall is planned for a 210 acre second phase.

Palm Coast Park is also planned and it will cover 474 acres west of I-95 and south of Old Kings Road.  It will feature car dealerships, health clubs, retail stores, a railway, lakes and 3600 housing units.  It's in a preliminary stage, but will lag behind the Town Center.

There is a rough preliminary plan for a 400,000 sq. ft. shopping center on the 57 acre wooded tract cradled between I-95 and Palm Coast Parkway.

The Matanzas Overpass is on the priority list.  This will cut travel time for Matanzas Woods residents and will also help to save lives.  With the opening of a new fire station on north Belle Terre Parkway, the overpass will allow emergency personnel faster response to the northeastern neighborhoods.  When the project is complete, Palm Harbor Parkway will connect to Matanzas Woods Parkway east of I-95.  Matanzas Woods Parkway will continue west and cross Old Kings Road and the interstate to connect to the existing Matanzas Woods Parkway west of I-95.

While all this growth promotes traffic, the city has a plan to help the situation.  In the next 5 years, Palm Coast will spend more than $15 million to widen part of Palm Coast Parkway to 6 lanes and Belle Terre Parkway to four and there will be an addition of 7 traffic signals on Belle Terre Parkway.
